Vimeo Refreshes Roku App to Drive More Views
Vimeo has redesigned its Roku app in an effort to grow viewership on the connected-TV platform.
The “completely rebuilt Roku experience,” as the company calls it, prioritizes popular video feeds on Vimeo, including Vimeo Staff Picks and collections curated by various content providers, which will now be accessible via the app’s homepage. The app also makes it easier for users to access their own, personalized video feeds (My Videos, Likes, Watch Later, and Incoming).
Other updates meant to increase consumption on the Roku app include the ability for non-registered users to watch Staff Picks and the curated collections without needing to login, as well as smarter search recommendations and a new interactive “playbar” that allows users to like and save videos without clicking out of the video page.
Additionally, Vimeo says the new design also “lays the foundation” for supporting in-app purchases for Vimeo On Demand for the first time. This functionality is targeted to go live this fall.
The updated app is available for free in the Roku app store, and is compatible on all of the company’s streaming devices, including Roku-branded TV sets launching later this year.Tags: app, connected TV, Roku, Vimeo
