Vuguru Sends Three Films, Including Mary Lynn Rajskub-Starring ‘Play Nice,’ to Hulu Plus
Hulu has cut a deal with Vuguru to grab SVOD streaming rights to three feature films from the digital studio.
“Play Nice,” a comedy feature headlined by Mary Lynn Rajskub (“24: Live Another Day”), premieres today on Hulu Plus. The film tells the story of two parents who are trying to get their son into a prestigious school. Unfortunately, the headmasters of the school, who also happened to be married to each other, stand in their way.
Alongside Rajskub, “Play Nice” stars Collette Wolfe (“Mad Men”), David Hoffman (“Bridesmaids”), and John Ennis (“Mr. Show”). It was directed by Rodman Flender (“The Officer”) and written by Lindsay Stidham and Jill Bartlett. Vuguru, Rajskub, Joy Gohring, and Ryan Lewis produced.
Following “Play Nice,” Vuguru will debut two other features on Hulu Plus — though unlike “Play Nice” are both on a second domestic window in the US after airing on other platforms.
“Crawlspace” is a horror movie that follows a banker who moves his family into a foreclosed house. Soon enough, the banker’s past comes back to haunt his family, after it’s revealed that he was responsible for the foreclosure, which he forced on the previous owners after their children drowned in the pool.
The film, which stars Steven Weber (“The Big Year”), Lori Loughlin (“90210,” “Full House”), Jonathan Silverman (“Hot in Cleveland”), and David Koechner (“Anchorman”), originally aired on Showtime. It was directed by Josh Stolberg (“Sorority Row”), written by Stolberg and Nick Tavarella, and produced by Mike Karz and Jamie Burke.
The third Vuguru film, “The Fuzz,” originally aired as a short-form series on Yahoo Screen as part of Yahoo’s 2013 comedy slate. The narrative follows a puppet cop who teams up with a human to chase the most powerful drug lord in Puppet Town. Directed by Duncan Skiles and written by Skiles, Chris Ford, and Jon Watts, “The Fuzz” stars John Gabrus of CollegeHumor and Nate Long of Funny or Die. Producers include 3 Arts Entertainment, Ford, and Watts.
Both “Crawlspace” and “The Fuzz” will debut Hulu in the coming weeks, according to Vuguru.
This multi-film deal with Hulu follows an earlier streaming agreement between Vuguru and Hulu for “The Millionaire Tour,” a live-action thriller starring Dominic Monaghan (“Lost”).
The digital studio and the streaming service are long-time partners, having previously worked together on “The Booth at the End,” a critically-acclaimed drama series starring Xander Berkeley, which aired both of its seasons on Hulu and Hulu Plus.
An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that “Play Nice” was an exclusive for Hulu Plus. The piece has also been updated to include additional writing and producing credits for the films.Tags: Crawlspace, David Koechner, Hulu, hulu plus, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Play Nice, Showtime Networks, Steven Weber, The Fuzz, Vuguru, Yahoo!, Yahoo!
