Watch Netflix’s New TV Ad for the Holidays
Well Thanksgiving is over, which means, it’s now time to turn your attention to Black Friday (if you haven’t already), and Cyber Monday (if you haven’t already), and everything else designed to remind you that it’s the most commercial time of the year — sorry, the most festive time of the year. There’s not going to be any shortage of ads over the next month that play into the holiday spirit, targeting values like family, togetherness, and the spirit of giving.
In fact, here’s a TV ad from Netflix that does exactly that. Titled, “Holiday Tree Topper,” the minute-long spot is narrated by the titular character, who shows how a certain family, as dysfunctional as it is, comes together around the holiday time, especially to watch Netflix. It leads to the new tagline for Netflix: “It just might bring everyone together.” Solid concept, though I don’t know about whoever did the voice-work for the Tree Topper.

It’s been a big year for Netflix. Not only did the company launch its first major original series, (“House of Cards”), but it also saw the same show receive adulation across the board, culminating in multiple Emmy nominations and wins. For a company that wants to be considered a premium TV programmer in the vein of HBO, Netflix did a lot of things right in 2013. So why not a holiday TV ad to continue riding the wave of good momentum?
The “Holiday Tree Topper” commercial began airing on Thanksgiving Day, but I imagine you’ll be seeing more of it through the next month.Tags: Christmas, Holidays, house of cards, Netflix, TV Commercials
