Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer took the stage in Las Vegas this afternoon to give a speech on the state of Yahoo. The presentation covered many things, including Yahoo’s acquisition of “intelligent homescreen” startup Aviate and its launch of Yahoo News Digest and Digital Magazines.

CW Seed, WIGS Lead Winners at 2014 IAWTV Awards
The IAWTV Awards may not have the stature of the People’s Choice Awards (which also take place this week), and may not feature big names like Robert Downey Jr. or Scarlett Johannson (neither of whom, as far as I can tell, have been involved in a web series), but that doesn’t change the fact that the annual event serves as a good benchmark for quality online video.
Aereo gets another $34M, promises 15 markets by March
Aereo, the startup service that is putting the TV industry’s nose out of joint with its $8/month streaming package, announced on Tuesday that it has received a major new funding round to pursue further expansion.
Hearst’s re-launch of its Seventeen magazine YouTube Channel on Jan. 27 with partner AwesomenessTV is a sign of more big brands staking their ground on the platform. This from Margaret Laney, AwesomenessTV CMO, who told a CES Digital Hollywood panel that brands are thinking of YouTube “as a big fan club.” AwesomenessTV is programming Seventeen’s YouTube presence to include original shows and tutorials.
Sony announces internet TV service, plans to start testing it later this year

MTV Pushes Further into Web Video with Casting of Lohanthony as Host of ‘Teen Wolf’ Recap Show
Anthony Quintal, better known on YouTube as Lohanthony, has been tapped to host a new online recap show for MTV’s “Teen Wolf.” Called “Teen Wolf After, After Show,” the new online program will follow each episode of “Teen Wolf,” which is currently midway through its third season. Similar to the style of recap shows on networks like AMC, “Teen Wolf After, After Show,” which will be co-hosted by comedian Morgan Evans, will feature interviews with the TV show’s cast and crew, as well as appearances from celebrity fans.
Vimeo Unpacks Faster, More ‘Elegant’ Video Player
