Comcast May Soon Have More Web Users Than Cable Subscribers

Signs of the times: The largest cable company in the U.S. may soon have more Internet than TV subscribers. Comcast Corp.’s video users increased by 6,000 last quarter, for a total 22.4 million. Meanwhile broadband subscribers surged by 375,000 to almost 22 million.

Judd Apatow and Paul Reubens Bringing Pee-Wee to Netflix

Pee-Wee Herman (aka Paul Reubens) will be back with another adventure, thanks to Netflix and Judd Apatow. The feature film, “Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday,” will begin production this March (so there’s no release date yet). In the movie, Pee-Wee will meet a “mysterious stranger” who somehow inspires him to take a vacation.




Steven Suptic Joins Discovery Digital Networks & SourceFed Team

YouTube gamer and animator Steven Suptic is now a producer and host for Discovery Digital Networks‘ video division, officially joining the network’s comedic “news” series, SourceFed.

Vimeo to Fund and Sell Select Premium Content from Machinima

Vimeo has inked a content development and distribution deal with Machinima, the second such agreement the video company has with a major YouTube multi-channel network.




Netflix Hopes to Include Russia in Global Expansion Plans

The company hasn’t confirmed any specific plans to move into Russia, but according to dual reports by Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, it hopes to. “We would certainly hope that Russia is part of that expansion, but I am not able to share any further details at this time,”Joris Evers, Netflix’s head of communications for Europe, told Variety.




Here’s what’s new on Netflix in March

Tina Fey’s new comedy “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” and the new drama “Bloodline” starring Kyle Chandler (“Friday Night Lights”) make up five new series and specials coming to Netflix.

Snapchat’s “Our Stories” are generating tens of millions of views

Snapchat is telling people how many views their “Our Story” clip receives if they make one in the collective, crowdsourced section. Based on people I’ve interviewed, it appears Snapchat’s Our Stories are hitting viewing numbers that television’s most popular shows see, although it’s tough to get a clear picture of Snapchat’s metrics.



Chromecast comes to South Korea and Australia, now in 24 countries

Google’s quest to bring Chromecast everywhere continued with an expansion to Australia, Japan, South Korea, Switzerland, Belgium and Portugal in May of 2014. Chromecast is now available in 24 countries and territories.

While audience and revenue at most cable and broadcast networks either declined or remained flat last year, their digital video operations are growing at a healthy pace, according to a new report from video ad tech firm FreeWheel. Compared to 2013, broadcasters experienced 67 percent growth on their fall 2014 TV shows’ digital video ad views, FreeWheel found (based on over 125 million video views the company measured last year).
