Whistle Sports Drafts YouTube’s Head of Football to Lead Global Expansion
Whistle Sports has hired another YouTube executive as it begins expanding overseas. Jeff Nathenson, head of football (as in soccer) at YouTube since July 2011, has signed on to be the company’s SVP of content partnerships and distribution for EMEA.
Nathenson will run The Whistle’s new London office, which will serve as the central hub for creating original content with sports leagues and athletes based in Europe. This content, as with other produced by The Whistle and its league and creator partners, will be available across all of The Whistle’s digital platforms, including the recently launched Xbox app.
“Expanding internationally is a key next step for Whistle Sport’s overall growth strategy, and we are delighted to have such a strong leader guiding us in creating new content to showcase the world’s most popular sport at the helm of our first international base,” said John West, co-founder and CEO of The Whistle, in a statement.
At YouTube, Nathenson oversaw global football strategy, bringing on more premium content to the site. This included securing content partnerships with the likes of FIFA, UEFA, La Liga, Ligue 1, and Lega Calcio, as well as sponsorship deals with Adidas and Gillette.
Prior to YouTube, Nathenson was executive producer for feature programming for CNN London.
He is the latest executive from YouTube to sign on with The Whistle. Others include Julie Kikla, a founding member of the YouTube Sports team, and Dev Sethi, a founding member of YouTube’s online acquisition team.Tags: Exec Moves, Jeff Nathenson, MCN, Movers, Sports, The Whistle, youtube
