DirecTV Starts OTT Plans with Spanish-Language Video Service Yaveo
Priced at $7.99 per month (with the first month free), Yaveo offers access to thousands of hours of programming from the US, Latin America, and Spain, including movies on demand as well as popular TV shows, children’s programming, novelas, music, and documentaries. Content providers signed up to distribute their channels via Yaveo include Univision, Canal 22, Canal Once, Caracol, Nick en Espanol, RCN, TMN, and Tr3s, among others.
Subscribers will also be able to stream live sports and Spanish entertainment channels like BeIN Sports en Espanol, Cine Sony Television, and Hola TV.
Currently, the service is available online and on Android devices. This will be “closely followed” by an expansion to iOS devices, the Xbox 360, and other connected devices, according to the announcement. Access is restricted to US audiences.
DirecTV is one of many TV distributors who have announced plans to launch a direct-to-consumer streaming product that’s not tied to an existing TV contract. Sony’s PlayStation Vue is set for an early 2015 launch, while similar products from the likes of Verizon and Dish Network are also in the works.
For DirecTV, Yaveo is also one of many niche services the company plans to launch in the future, according to comments made by CEO Mike White in September.
“Yaveo gets DirecTV into the OTT business and we’re excited to start with a compelling Spanish-language service targeted to the Hispanic community,” said Paul Guyardo, chief revenue and marketing officer of the company, in a statement. “We’ll learn a great deal, use the findings to grow and improve the Yaveo platform and expand our OTT offering over time.”Tags: digital distribution, direcTV, Hispanic Content, OTT, SVOD, Univision, YaVeo
