YouTube Books Star Studded ‘Comedy Week’ ft. Nerdist, Grace Helbig, The Fine Bros. + Jash
In a valiant effort towards further world domination, YouTube has announced the star-studded lineup for its first-annual Comedy Week, taking place between May 19 – 25, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Following a massive live event on May 19th, YouTube will rollout a week long series of live shows, performances, original comedy content and curated top 10 lists from the Comedy Week collective. Hollywood comedy toppers like Rainn Wilson, Sarah Silverman, Michael Cera, (behind YouTube’s latest funded effort Jash), Seth Rogen, Tim and Eric, Ed Helms, Ken Jeong, Vince Vaughn are expected to participate.
From the online world, comedy faves including Nerdist, The Fine Bros., The Onion, College Humor, Funny or Die, Epic Rap Battles of History, Above Average, Barely Political, Improv Everywhere, and KassemG.
Comedy Week marks YouTube’s first major foray in to week long programming since the collaboration with CNN around the 2012 Presidential Election where YouTube provided content and programming around the Presidential debates.
In addition to taking on comedy, VideoInk has heard YouTube will also start programming a Nerd Week – perhaps to take on Comic Con and a Gaming Week – to draw on E3, PAX and GDC audiences.
The real question will be whether or not week-long “events” can spark enough enthusiasm to help YouTube’s sales teams sell against the programming. For Comedy Week specifically, we’re curious to see if pre-summer travel audiences will still be glued to their devices to tune into a week’s-worth of content.
