YouTube Finally Arrives on Roku
YouTube is Roku’s newest content partner. The world’s biggest video site, for a long time a glaring hole in Roku’s programming guide, has launched a new app/channel for the Roku streaming media platform. It’s the full YouTube experience — if users sign into the channel, they will have access to the same subscriptions they do on other YouTube apps. Other features include HD streaming and a “send to TV” option that allows users to shoot a video from their YouTube mobile app to the Roku channel, as long as both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
At the moment, the YouTube channel is only available on the Roku 3 in the US, Canada, UK, and Ireland. In a blog post, Roku’s VP of content acquisition Ed Lee said the channel will be available on additional player models next year.
