YouTube Has a New Head of Consumer Products
Former Zynga executive Manuel Bronstein has joined YouTube as head of consumer products.
YouTube’s product team has seen several changes in the past few months. Shishir Mehrotra, who was the video site’s overall head of product, left in April. He was followed by Shiva Rajaraman, who departed the company for Spotify in August. It’s Rajaraman’s post as head of consumer products that Bronstein will fill. There’s no word on a replacement for Mehrortra.
From February 2010 to June 2014, Bronstein was VP of product at social-gaming company Zynga. Prior that, he spent many years at Microsoft/Xbox.
At YouTube, he’s likely to support the music subscription service that the video site is hoping to launch. (On this front, the Financial Times reported earlier today that YouTube has secured a licensing deal with Merlin, a music trade group that represents more than 2,000 independent labels. Merlin was a major holdout for YouTube and its subscription music plans, as the company has already inked licensing deals with the three major labels.)
Bronstein could also work with YouTube on its plans for a offering ad-free subscriptions on the site.Tags: Consumer Products, Exec Moves, Manuel Bronstein, Microsoft, Movers, Xbox, youtube, Zynga
