YouTube Returns to a Digital Video-Heavy Sundance in 2015

YouTube will be back at the Sundance Film Festival for the third year in a row in 2015, where it will host the opening reception of the short films segment, show off some content from its own platform, and present some panels. Overall, the panels will have quite a strong digital video presence this year…but we’ll get to that later.

As for YouTube, channels PESfilm and Yulin Kuang will get to show their short films (“Submarine Sandwich” and “I Ship It,” respectively) to Sundance audience members before the Sundance Short filmmakers screenings. The video platform also sponsors the Sundance Short Film program. You can take a look at “Submarine Sandwich” below:

As for the panels, YouTube will be partnering with The Hollywood Reporter on two panels during the festival, “Financing Through the Power of Fans” and “Jumpstarting Your Career in Film.” The first will feature the co-founder of Rooster Teeth Productions, Burnie Burns, and the head of film at Indiegogo, Marc Hofstatter (in addition to “traditional” film talents like John Sloss, producer of “Boyhood,” and Bryan Carberry and Clay Tweel, the co-directors of documentary “Finders Keepers”).

The second panel from YouTube and THR, meanwhile, will include important names in digital entertainment like George Strompolos, CEO of Fullscreen, and Benny and Rafi Fine, better known as The Fine Bros on YouTube.

Sundance’s official panels will include speakers like Danielle Tiedt, CMO and VP of marketing at YouTube; Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer of Netflix; Doug Neil,EVP of digital marketing and Universal Pictures; Gwyn Welles, manager of creator strategy at YouTube (the moderator of the second of these panels); Bernie Su, VideoInk’s creator of the year in 2014; and Danny Gabai, executive creative director at Vice.

Sundance Film Festival will take place between January 22 and 25 in Park City, Utah.
