YouTuber Charles Trippy Announces Plans to Vlog While Undergoing Brain Surgery
Vlogger Charles Trippy has had several very serious health scares within the past two years. As documented on his YouTube channel Internet Killed Television, Trippy has spent much of the last year treating a non-malignant brain tumor.
On February 23, 2012, Trippy was rushed to the hospital after experiencing a seizure while on tour with rock band We The Kings. Doctors discovered a brain tumor that was removed on March 6, 2012. However, in early 2013, Trippy experienced two more seizures while at home. Although the tumor had not regrown, scars from the previous surgery had caused the seizures.
Trippy announced on Twitter today that he will be vlogging during his brain surgery. Trippy’s tweet reads: “Just spoke with my surgeon. He has given me the okay so I will be vlogging during my brain surgery tomorrow.”
The message has since received an outpouring of support from followers and friends alikes on Twitter. Trippy’s surgery is scheduled for September 17, 2013.
The popularity of vlogging on YouTube has come exactly from this level of transparency from creators. Originally popularized by personalities like Shay Carl and Justine Ezarik, vlogging gives viewers a window into the lives of creators they admire and feel personally connected to. In Trippy’s case, the vlogger has opened up a very intimate portion of his life to viewers. It’s an incredible act of transparency that speaks volumes about Trippy’s personal relationship with his audience and vice versa.
