Music Vault Brings Over 13,000 Live-Music Videos to YouTube
Music Vault, a collection of live music performances, is bringing over 13,000 live music videos to YouTube. The newly added live concert footage covers the past fifty years and includes shows from legendary musicians like James Brown, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and The Grateful Dead, plus those of newer indie performers like Fleet Foxes and Deer Tick.
Music Vault also features videos from websites that promote indie music like Daytrotter and Paste Magazine, in addition to being a home for music video footage from venues like Woodstock and New Jersey’s Capitol Theatre, as well as archives like Bill Graham Presents and the King Biscuit Flower Hour. In total, the YouTube music hub boasts around 2,000 hours worth of exclusive music-related video content.
“After two years restoring, transferring, mixing and mastering thousands of tapes from our enormous archive, we’re thrilled and extremely proud to share this massive treasure with the YouTube music community,” Music Vault content editor Bill Antonucci said in a statement.
“We believe this content deserves to be seen by the largest audience possible, and our partnership with YouTube allows us to do that,” he continued. “And not only does YouTube have the numbers, their viewership is as diverse and all-encompassing as the Music Vault catalog. Younger music fans will now be able to experience what it was like to see these classic bands at the peak of their powers while their parents relive the thrill of seeing shows they actually attended.”
A further effort in sharing this “treasure” with the music-loving community will involve daily featured videos, weekly playlists, and original videos on the channel. The Vault’s editors have already put together six playlists to showcase the digital music hub’s new offerings. One deemed the “Best of the Vault” features concert footage from the Rolling Stones and The Who, while “The Pioneers of Funk” includes the likes of James Brown and Parliament-Funkadelic performing live.
