“Hooked Up with Tom Colicchio” Reels You In
The title sequence for all seven episodes of the Reserve Channel‘s “Hooked Up with Tom Colicchio” starts with a voiceover from the host: “I’m Tom Colicchio and I’m in the food business — from restaurants to reality tv — but my true passion is fishing.” And that’s all it is: fishing and conversing with celebrities that, of course, ends with a meal or drink whether anyone catches anything.
Colicchio’s a restauranteur and host of the popular “Top Chef” known for his genial attitude and insightful commentary, but his job on the show wasn’t primarily as an interviewer as much as a judge and a guide. But you wouldn’t know that watching “Hooked Up”; he guides his guests through interesting subjects and rough waters. Continue reading here.
“Internet Icon” Still Shines in Season Two Despite Overused Format
“Internet Icon”‘s second season returned in May and is already up to its fourth episode. Judges Ryan Higa, Christine Lakin, Timothy DeLaGhetto and guests as well as hosts (and Internet Icon first season winners) The Brothers Riedell guide a crew of YouTubers through new challenges as they whittle them down from a cast of 100 to just one remaining Internet Icon.
They’ve obviously adapted the “American Idol” format with three consistent judges and a guest judge, The Brothers Riedell stepping in for Seacrest, elimination rounds, and themed challenges. Instead, though, “Internet Icon” focuses heavily on comedy and knowing the YouTube audience with critiques from some of the people who might arguably know YouTube audiences best. Which is still a hard draw considering that if none of these contestants win a single challenge, they can still keep making YouTube videos — there’s no production time with a major music label, just the chance for a title and some sage advice.
