In what will hopefully be another successful web-to-TV franchise, Comedy Central is set to premiere “Drunk History,” a historical sketch comedy show based on Funny or Die’s long-running web series of the same name, this Tuesday night at 10pm ET/PT.
The conceit is very simple (and very funny): A “storyteller” gets drunk and then has to recite a famous thing that happened in US history. This drunken monologue is videotaped and then scripted, forming the basis of a dramatic reenactment performed by a bunch of big-name comedy actors (in full costume).
The half-hour Comedy Central series will do this across eight episodes. The first season has an impressive lineup of actors and comedians (and actor/comedians) scheduled to appear on an episode, including Bob Odenkirk, Jack Black, Adam Scott, Kristen Wiig, Connie Britton, Bradley Whitford, Jack McBrayer, Aubrey Plaza, Luke Wilson, Owen Wilson, Will Forte, Alfred Molina, and Jason Schwartzman.
“Drunk History” is created by Jeremy Konner and Derek Waters. The first episode stages a famous meeting between Elvis Presley (as played by Jack Black) and President Richard Nixon (as played by Bob Odenkirk). Check out the preview clip:
