f YouTube can function as a digital MSO, then Yahoo can roughly be considered a programmer. It not only produces its own original shows, but greenlights series developed by other studios for distribution on its own video network — Yahoo Screen. Largely, these shows are developed or picked up because they make sense for Yahoo’s audience.
Comedy works on Yahoo; so does reality/lifestyle content — that’s clear based on the types of shows the company has been airing for the past couple of years.
But how about music content? That works, too. Tonight, Yahoo is exclusively airing the Katy Perry iHeartRadio Album Release Party, live from the newly opened iHeartRadio Theater in Los Angeles. The stream, which will be available via Yahoo Screen’s Music channel, will consist of a musical performance and a live Q&A hosted by Mario Lopez. The show begins at 9pm ET.
Oh, and if you don’t catch it online, The CW Network, a TV programmer, plans to air a recorded version of the show on Friday, October 25, also beginning at 9pm ET.
