Microsoft is launching its Xbox Video service on the web today. Available at video.xbox.com, the service offers access to an array of current and older movies and TV shows, which users can purchase and stream right from their browser. The library includes “TV shows” like Netflix’s original political drama “House of Cards,” as well as a whole host of stuff you find on linear television.
When users buy a title online, it will also be available across other platforms Xbox Video is available on, including the web, the Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles, and even an upcoming Windows Phone app.
According to The Verge, Microsoft was originally expected to launch Xbox Video on the web and on Windows Phone devices at the same time. Obviously the mobile version has met with some delays, though the site reports that it should arrive on Windows Phones shortly.
Both the web version of Xbox One and the one designed for Windows Phone don’t support HD video.
