YouTuber Freddie Wong said it best: “Consistent audience requires consistent content!” Our next batch of “Creator Playbook” tips focuses on maintaining a YouTube schedule that the audience you’ve been building can follow. Frequency and regularity are key when it comes to posting view-catching videos. Here a few tips for keeping your feed an active one:
What to Post:
1) One Video Per Week Minimum: A good rule to follow, the one-a-week minimum ensures your audience will get something new on a very regular basis. Remember, though, that this is a minimum. YouTube popularity is a numbers game, after all, and posting more than once a week means that many more views funneled to your channel.
2) Post Outside of Videos, Too: In addition to regular entertainment uploads, be sure to habitually “like” and comment on the platform. Keep your feed alive in any way you can!
3) Supplement Your Content: If you have a series, fill the break between “seasons” with clips related to the show’s characters. Make trailers for the next, big episode. Think of this stuff as DVD “extras.” Clips like a blooper reel from your popular series will keep the audience you’ve already acquired occupied.
4) As Always, Teasers: Many people seek out YouTube as a place for short-form entertainment. Throw those people a bone by making a short, preview-type version of your longer videos. From there, they may find the content enjoyable enough to sit still for a whole, twenty minutes.
When to Post It:
1) Pick a Day: It will help your audience if you stick with a certain day of the week to upload your new content. Dedicated fans won’t accidentally miss content if they know it’s coming out each Thursday.
2) Inform Your Viewers: On that note, they have to know it’s coming out on Thursday. Clearly communicate your release dates to your fans through videos, video descriptions, comments, etc.
3) Make a Schedule: YouTube has a publishing feature that allows you to structure when you put out what kinds of videos. If you have one vlog style show and another that’s purely how-to, you can organize when new content for both appears on your channel.
4) Post Relevant Content with Trends: Say everyone on the internet is crazy about this certain cat video (old example?). Put out your video in which you rant about the cat, dress up as the cat, whatever you want to do that will draw new viewers to content that comments on what they’ve already seen elsewhere.
