Amazon Studios just got done with releasing its second batch of original pilots, but the company has no plans to slow down.
Per Deadline, actress Mena Suvari (“American Pie” and “American Beauty”) will headline a new drama pilot called “Hysteria,” which comes from “Invasion” creator Shaun Cassidy and Alcon Entertainment. Suvari will play an “exceptionally bright” but socially awkward doctor at the University of Texas Medical School who goes back to her hometown to investigate a mysterious epidemic. Technology may be involved in the spread of this disease.
This is another drama that could potentially join Amazon Studios’ original content stable. The company’s first two dramas, “The After” and “Bosch,” were recently given the greenlight for full seasons (though Amazon has yet to officially announce this).
Amazon has another drama pilot in development, “Hand of God,” which has already lined up an impressive cast including Ron Perlman (“Sons of Anarchy”) and Garret Dillahunt (“Raising Hope”). Written by Ben Watkins and directed by Marc Forster (“World War Z”), “Hand of God” centers on a powerful judge who has a religious awakening and starts hearing things and having visions through his ventilator-bound son, which could be the voice of God.
