Collective Digital Studio, an MCN whose stable of talent includes YouTube heavyweights Freddie Wong and Epic Meal Time, is making a movie. The company will produce the prank film, “Natural Born Pranksters,” starring VitalyzdTV, Roman Atwood, and Dennis Roady.
Marking Atwood’s directorial debut, the film is currently in pre-production and will begin shooting in June. The plan is to release it theatrically, though CDS hasn’t locked in a distributor yet.
That said, this isn’t the first long-form project out of the CDS family. The company famously partnered with Brian Robbins to make multiple “Fred” movies, based on the character created by Lucas Cruikshank. CDS has also helped “The Annoying Orange” and creator Dane Boedigheimer expand to a successful show on Cartoon Network; brought both seasons of Freddie Wong’s “Video Game High School” to Netflix; and, most recently, struck a deal with A+E’s FYI Network to produce 16 episodes of a TV show with “Epic Meal Time.”
“Natural Born Pranksters,” inspired by prank films like “Jackass” and “Borat,” will be produced by Collective Digital Studio. Executive producers include Vitaly, Atwood, and Roady, with CDS chief content officer Gary Binkow and John Fitzpatrick serving as producers.
Vitaly and Atwood are two of the most popular pranksters on YouTube. Vitaly, in particular, is behind the most-subscribed prank channel on YouTube with more than 5.7 million subscribers. Altogether, the three creators in the movie reach more than 10 million subscribers on the world’s biggest video platform.
“Prank movies perform incredibly well at the box office and we think these guys, with their passionate followers, have the potential to create the next great prank film franchise,” said Binkow in a statement. “I just hope we’re not in jail for the premiere.”
