Karen Cahn, GM of AOL On Originals, is leaving the company.
In an email, Cahn announced: “After three amazing years of leading AOL On Originals and Branded Entertainment, I am moving on. Being a part of the resurrection of AOL is one of the best things I’ve ever done and I’m extremely proud of the work my team did in AOL On Originals.”
Her final day is Wednesday, April 16.
Cahn was recruited by AOL in 2011 — after spending a decade as a top sales executive at Google and YouTube — to build AOL’s branded entertainment division. Within this capacity, she brokered deals with brands like Citi, General Mills, Samsung, Unilever, and Verizon.
Later on, Cahn transitioned to the originals side of AOL’s video business, helping the company acquire and package its 2013 slate of original series. This slate, which was first previewed at last year’s Newfronts, has been championed by AOL as a major success. In total, the lineup has pulled in more than 150 million views to date. Five of the 15 shows launched on AOL On since last spring are nominated for the 2014 Webby Awards.
“Helping to make the AOL brand cool again wasn’t an easy task, but I think we did some good work in driving towards that goal with the original video programming we put out,” Cahn commented in her email.
Don’t expect Cahn to be on the outside of the digital video business for long, though: “I am very excited for my next chapter in the digital video industry,” she said.
