The zombie bandwagon is a pretty lengthy one at this point, and it’s about to grow even more come autumn. Unlike all of the other zombie shows out there, however, this new web series will take a decidedly different angle…the reality one.
“Fight of the Living Dead,” filmed at the end of May in Los Angeles, stars nine major YouTubers as part of a horror reality competition. Four of the nine competitors were just announced today: Justine Ezarik (aka iJustine), Olga Kay, Same Pepper, and Jarrett Sleeper. Previously known cast members include Joey Graceffa, Meghan Camarena (aka Strawburry17), Iman Crosson (aka Alphacat), and PrankvsPrank’s Jesse Wellens and Jeana Smith.
Of course, the question is: How in the world do you make a reality series involving zombies when zombies aren’t actually real (as far as we know, at least)?
Produced by Ketchum Labs and Revolver Picture Company for a barely under $500,000, “Fight of the Living Dead” solves this problem by blindfolding the contestants and taking them to the Sybil Brand Institute, a long-closed county jail for women that formerly held inmates like Susan Atkins of the Manson family.
As for the zombies, they’ll be played by a couple hundred extras, who were zombified by makeup artist Tommy Pietch.
The competition will unfold this fall, with individual storylines appearing on each YouTuber’s channel before it all comes together on the horror-loving BlackBoxTV channel. Once it debuts on YouTube, there are plans to release all of the content on other platforms, including DVD and iTunes.
Today’s casting was first reported by Stream Daily.
