Berlin-based multi-channel network Studio71, a division of the German media giant ProSiebenSat.1, recently launched The Mansion, a facility in West Hollywood, LA designed to nurture collaborations between the network’s talent and US-based YouTubers and advertisers.
The MCN is now announcing plans to expand the project by inviting more US MCNs and YouTube creators to visit the facility.
The Mansion is a house, armed with full production capabilities, where Studio71 talent from Germany take residence. The premise is pretty simple: During their residency, the German creators collaborate with US talent on new videos, which are then published to The Mansion’s YouTube channel (165,000 subscribers) as well as the creators’ own channels. In this way, both sides are able to benefit by reaching potential new fans.
For Studio71, this is especially important as the MCN tries to build its presence in the US — especially among advertisers.
When launching The Mansion, Studio71 said “The Annoying Orange” creator Dane Boedigheimer and DJ Flula would be among the guests coming in to develop ideas and content with talent like Gronkh (3 million subscribers) and Sarazar (1.37 million subscribers).
Since then, Studio71 says it’s been actively reaching out to the US YouTube community about future collaborations. At VidCon, gamer Boogie2988 (1.9 million subscribers) agreed to participate. He will join Gronkh and other gaming talent living in the house for live gameplay videos and discussions.
On the MCN side, Christian Meinberger, head of content programming and production for Studio71, said the network has received “favorable feedback from US MCNs” about potential collaborations. “By participating, they realize that they will be able to expand their already massive base of subscribers on their own channels. This, in turn, will allow us to broaden The Mansion’s appeal to English-language viewers, making it very attractive to American branded entertainment sponsors.”
