Former Electus executive Evan Bregman is the new head of original content at Portal A, a California-based independent digital studio behind series like “Takei’s Take” and “White Collar Brawlers,” as well as viral hits like “YouTube Rewind.”
In the role, which he starts immediately, Bregman will oversee Portal A’s original content business, from development to production, distribution, and “amplification.” He’s been tasked with creating a slate of projects that can be sold to advertisers, TV networks, and digital buyers, the company said. He will also lead Portal A’s development of original content that features or is co-created by YouTube stars for multiple platforms.
“Adding Evan to the team represents a new chapter in the growth of Portal A,” said Zach Blume, partner and managing Director at Portal A. “We are making a significant financial investment in the development of original entertainment programming and Evan will lead the charge, helping us develop ideas in house with our creative team and also fielding submissions from the YouTube community at large.”
Most recently, Bregman was the executive director of digital media at Electus, a multi-platform content house within the IAC family of companies that oversees digital brands like CollegeHumor and WatchLoud. A founding member of the team, he handled creative, production, and audience development for all Electus Digital properties, and was the executive producer for a number of scripted and unscripted projects, including the Amazon pilot “Maker Shack Agency” and the multi-platform launch of “Total Slaughter” in partnership with Eminem’s Shady Films.
Bregman will remain based in Los Angeles, working alongside senior producer Jacob Motz, who was hired by Portal A this past spring after serving almost two years as Fullscreen’s head of production.
