James Franco has been cast in “11/22/63,” an upcoming original mini-series for Hulu about the JFK assassination.
The thriller, based on the 2011 best-selling novel written by Stephen King, will follow a high school English teacher named Jake Epping as he travels back in time to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Once in the past, his mission is threatened by Lee Harvey Oswald, a love interest, and a past that does not want to be changed.
Franco will play the lead role of Epping, and has also come on board as a producer for the nine-hour event series.
“11/22/63” comes from JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions, King himself, executive producer and writer Bridget Carpenter, and Warner Bros. Television. The series was picked up by Hulu in September, as part of a more concerted effort by the streaming service to produce and distribute bigger-budget original programming.
