Basically, all of these companies are coming together to bring the feature length documentary to multiple different screens this summer, with independent theater distribution company Abramorama and Tugg, a platform that lets filmmakers and fans organize screenings, putting the movie in theaters, while Vimeo and adventure lifestyle website GrindTV (also Yahoo’s adventure sports content provider) will make the film available on digital on demand.
“The Search for Freedom” features a host of big action sports names, including pro skater Tony Hawk, along with some less mainstream athletes like the windsurfing world champion Robby Naish and the world champion long boarder Kelia Moniz. From their points of view, the documentary focuses on self-expression and “living in the moment.”
First, “The Search for Freedom” will become available in theaters with a one-day special event on June 10, after which Tugg will continue to show the film across theaters in the US throughout the rest of June and July. The VOD release will take place on August 10 in the US, at which time eOne and Universal will release the film on demand globally.
