Penguin Random House has won the book rights to YouTube superstar PewDiePie’s first book.
The book, titled “This Book Loves You,” is composed of more than 250 illustrated pages of “indispensable advice” and inspirational quotes straight from PewDiePie, known in real life as Felix Kjellberg.
It’s set for a worldwide release this fall, bowing in the US and UK on October 20. While Penguin Random House has global rights to the title, a few additional foreign distributors will release it in specific markets, such as Rowohlt in Germany, Aschehoug in Norway, Forum in Sweden, and Hachette in France.
“This book is a great chance for me to reach my audience in a new way,” said Kjellberg in a statement. “The original idea actually came from my fans via Twitter, so I really think they’re going to love it.”
Kjellberg joins a growing list of YouTubers who are venturing into book writing. Others ranging from Zoella to iJustine have published books. Previously, Plume Books, an imprint of Penguin Random House, partnered with Mamrie Hart on her book “You Deserve a Drink.”
On YouTube, Kjellberg has more than 37 million subscribers and 9 billion lifetime views, easily making him the biggest name on the world’s biggest video site. Mostly known for his entertaining “Let’s Play”-style gaming videos, Kjellberg has recently diversified his formats to including vlogging content, comedy sketches, and music parodies. He also recently guest-starred as himself in two episodes of “South Park.”
The deal for world rights to “This Book Loves You” was negotiated by Alexa Clarke, publishing director of Michael Joseph, an imprint of Penguin Random House UK, Ben Schrank, president and publisher of Razorbill, an imprint of Penguin Random House US, and Maker Studios on behalf of Kjellberg.
