Whalerock Industries has added People Magazine alum Jen Garcia as executive editor in charge of all editorial content for its forthcoming digital hubs for Kim Kardashian West, Khloé Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner, set to launch later this summer.
Prior to joining Whalerock Industries, Garcia served deputy news editor for People’s Los Angeles bureau. During her eight years with the publication, Garcia became intimately familiar with the Kardashian-Jenner clan as she documented major life events in the family, from marriages to births. Recently, Garcia worked directly with Kim Kardashian West during her stint as guest editor of People’s Beauty Watch section.
Whalerock first announced plans to develop dedicated digital channels with the Kardashians and other celebrities back in February. Similar to the the content hubs launched last year by Paula Deen, Sarah Palin, and Glenn Beck, the Whalerock platforms feature interactive original content (video, photos and editorial) and facilitate direct interaction between stars and their audience. They will feature a mix of free ad-supported content and paid programming on the channels, which will be available online and via mobile apps.
Whalerock is also developing digital hubs for rapper Tyler The Creator and Howard Stern, among others.
