At Netflix’s TCA presentation late last month, J. Michael Straczynski told reporters that that he and his “Sense8” co-creators Andy and Lana Wachowski were still waiting for the final word from the streaming service on a season 2 renewal for the show.
Today, the word was delivered to the public via social media. A video was posted on the “Sense8” Facebook face showing a pair of hands cutting up a birthday cake with the names of series characters on it to reveal the words “Season 2 coming soon.” Netflix also posted a “happy birthday” post on its Twitter feed (below) that concludes with a reveal of the Season 2 renewal.
Netflix followed the announcement by posting a making of video for the first season of “Sense8” on YouTube (below).
The Wachowski siblings (“The Matrix” trilogy, “Jupiter Ascending”) and Staczynski (“Thor,” “Babylon 5”) are the writers and executive producers of the series, which follows eight individuals around the globe who become mentally connected through a a single death. Season one starred Aml Ameen, Doona Bae, Jamie Clayton, Tina Desai, Tuppence Middleton, Max Riemelt, Miguel Ángel Silvestre, Naveen Andrews, Brian J. Smith, Freema Agyeman and Daryl Hannah.
Netflix did not reveal when Season 2 would start production or premiere.
