British broadcaster Channel 5 has ordered six episodes of “Now That’s Funny!,” an hour-long clip show produced by Dick Clark Productions (DCP) and leading viral video purveyor Jukin Media, it was announced today.
The family-friendly program will feature the best in funny, cute and inspiring viral videos from around the world, covering such topics as as pets, wildlife, kids, DIY and science.
“’Now That’s Funny!’ offers the most entertaining viral videos in the world, but they’re selected with care and presented in light, fun way,” said Jonathan Skogmo, founder and CEO of Jukin Media and “Now That’s Funny” executive producer, in a statement. “This is one that the whole family can watch together.”
Jukin Media has an ever-expanding library of more than 20,000 viral video clips. In July, the L.A.-based company received a $2 million investment from Samsung Venture Investments Corporation, bringing its total outside investment to $4.2 million to date.
“Now That’s Funny!” is the third collaboration between Jukin and DCP. In 2014, the two companies launched “Fail Army,” a half-hour clip show based on Jukin’s YouTube channel of the same name, targeting the international market. It is currently in its second 20-episode season, airing on Channel 5 sister station Spike UK, TV2 Norway, Rogers Media in Canada, TV3 New Zealand, Foxtel Australia and Sky Italia.
It also teamed DCP to produce “World’s Funniest Fails,” hosted by Terry Crews, which airs on Fox in the U.S. and City TV in Canada. After its first run of nine episodes in January, an additional nine were ordered for the fall of 2015, with the title shortened to “World’s Funniest.” The new season will debut on Nov. 6.
