It seems that every day more and more Youtube creators are setting up shop in the linear entertainment space. YouTube stars Caspar Lee (5.1 million subscribers) and Joe Sugg (5.3 million subscribers) have announced the launch of their production company, Raucous Productions, to create content for digital and linear television platforms.
Lee and Sugg are partnered in Raucous with Dominic Smales, who currently serves as managing director of Gleam Futures, a digital communications and promotion firm specializing in social media personalities. Among Gleam’s clients are a number of prominent U.K.-based YouTube personalities, including Lee and Sugg.
The company originates as a vehicle for “Hit The Road,” a documentary feature film that Lee and Sugg have been tapped to produce for the BBC. While “Hit The Road” is currently the only project on the Raucous Productions slate, the company will provide the pair with a platform for future opportunities.
Those opportunities are likely to come fast if “Hit the Road” manages to prove the duo’s production bona fides. Given that the film has already broken pre-sale records on Amazon U.K. before its release. that outcome seems increasingly likely.
