The Weather Channel and Al Roker, the longtime weatherman for NBC’s “Today,” are teaming up to create a next generation morning show for mobile devices, titled “The Lift.”
“The Lift” will be a mobile-first morning show program hosted by Roker, along with meteorologists Domenica Davis and Ari Sarsalari. The series will be comprised of six to eight short-form clips focused on breaking weather news, nature stories, science and viral videos. It will be available on iOS and Android devices exclusively through the Weather Channel mobile app.
This is the latest in a series of digital endeavors from Roker. In addition to expanding his personal digital footprint with the launch of a popular Vine channel and expansive social media presence, Roker has been hitting the road attending digital video conferences and gatherings, including Playlist Live and VidCon, to promote his digital content production company Al Roker Entertainment and its analytics division Al Roker Labs. Roker Labs, in particular, has been making headway exploring the emerging mobile live streaming space by tracking the performance of top broadcasters on platforms like Meerkat and Periscope. Al Roker Entertainment has also teamed with distribution wire service Business Wire to launch a business-focused video news service.
