Starting today, YouNow broadcasters will be able to integrate viewers into the stream instantly.
In an effort to replicate the talk show format, YouNow Founder Adi Sideman says the feature is one of the highest requested from users and viewers noting that it’s often difficult for the host to be “on” constantly and by integrating the viewer, it not only adds to the visual and conversational context of the stream, but boosts engagement.
In a statement, YouNow founder and CEO Adi Sideman added, “The ability to invite anyone to broadcast with you opens the door to new content formats and collaborations. For example, now audiences can call in, ‘talk show’ style and interact with the host; or contestants can come on screen one after the other. We will continue to innovate to enable users to participate in media and not just consume it linearly.”

This isn’t the first time YouNow has put guest integration into the live feed. The company has been testing the feature and iterating since 2012. It’s also not the first time that a live platform has integrated guests. Youaretv, a company backed by First Mark Capital and SoftBank, launched a similar product in 2013 with the ability to integrate multiple guests and to have a “producer” operate the backend to queue guests and decide on duration of the guests’ on-air time. On YouNow, the guest queue is public and the host can activate with a simple click. On average, YouNow clocks live streams in the tens of thousands per video, though Sideman claims the daily streams are in the millions.
Currently, the integration is desktop-only for the host functionality, but soon all mobile and desktop platforms will be active.
