Multi-platform distributor Cinedigm announced today that it is taking an 85% interest in the geek-friendly streaming service ConTV, while partner Wizard World retains 10%. Previously, Wizard World had a 42.5% interest.
Wizard World — which produces some 25 fan conventions annually — will remain an event and marketing partner for the OTT channel.
“We appreciate all that Wizard World brings to CONtv — from exclusive event access to marketing support to their legions of followers,” said Chris McGurk, Chairman and CEO of Cinedigm, in a statement. “Going forward, we all agreed it makes sense for our companies to focus on what we do best… For Cinedigm that is running OTT channels, and for Wizard World it’s all about putting on top notch events and conventions.”
Earlier this month, ConTV lowered its monthly subscription price from $6.99 to $4.99 a month, the same rate offered by Cinedigm’s faith and family VOD service the Dove Channel, launched in September. Cinedigm also another OTT service, Docurama, dedicated to documentaries.
ConTV currently carries approximately 2,500 hours of streaming content, including curated films and TV episodes, as well as exclusive coverage of Comic Con panels, cosplay and creator workshops and original episodic series, including the game show “Last Fan Standing,” hosted by Bruce Campbell, and the zombie reality competition series “Fight of the Living Dead,” featuring a cast of YouTube stars including Joey Graceffa, Justine Ezarik and Olga Kay.
