Verizon will be live streaming the red carpet action from the world premiere of the Disney sequel “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, beginning 8:30 p.m. ET.
Verizon will also provide viewers with four unique video streams:
- A “director’s cut” that will display the fully produced show, with angles from all camera.
- One camera at the entrance to the red carpet, showing the talent as they arrive and greet fans.
- A fashion camera that will capture talent posing for photographers.
- A camera positioned on a tower, providing a high-angle view of the stars as they make their way down the red carpet.
Verizon customers can submit questions by posting them to Twitter with the hashtag #TheRedCarpetAwakens, and talent from the film will answer a selection of them during the live stream with the Twitter profile pictures of the questioners displayed on-screen.
The isn’t the first “Star Wars” partnership for the telecom giant and the entertainment behemoth. Last month, Verizon and Disney announced they were teaming to promote “The Force Awakens” with an immersive video experience streaming via the “Star Wars” mobile app, available on iOS and Android devices, and viewable through Google Cardboard.
Verizon has been making a big investment in original streaming content in recent months, most notably with its free mobile video service Go90, which struck a deal with Disney-owned Maker Studios in October to create content based on the Mouse House’s rich catalog of IP, including the “Star Wars” franchise and Marvel Comics.
Back in September, Disney hosted a global live-streamed unboxing event for its new lineup of “Star Wars” merchandise that utilized a gaggle of top Maker Studios stars, including kids (EvanTubeHD), families (Bratayley), lifehack specialists (Bratayley), gamers (AlexBy11) and “Star Wars” fans (AlexBy11).
