Verizon’s Go90 content universe continues to expand. Today, Astronauts Wanted debuted the first episode of its new series “HeyUSAx” on the mobile platform, as well as the third season premiere of “Tawk with Awkwafina.”
A spin-off of Astronauts Wanted’s “#HeyUSA” series starring Grace Helbig and Mamrie Hart, “HeyUSAx” follows sibling Vine stars Marcus and Cody Johns as they travel the country in search of adrenaline-fueled adventures, trying everything from MMA fighting to fighter pilot training.
In season three of “Tawk,” Brooklyn-based rapper Awkwafina (a.k.a. Nora Lum) interviews a lineup of guests that includes comedian/”The Daily Show” correspondent Hasan Minhaj, social media personality Kingsley, creator/rapper Timothy DeLaGhetto, adult entertainer Asa Akira and chef Roy Choi.
“At Astronauts Wanted, everything starts from our love of this next generation of self-made social stars, and our excitement about partnering with them creatively to make stand-out show franchises,” said Nick Shore, Astronauts Wanted’s chief creative strategist, in a statement. “Shows designed for new platforms, new devices, and most importantly, for new audiences.”
A joint venture between Judy McGrath, former chairperson and CEO of MTV Networks, and Sony Music Entertainment, Astronauts Wanted focuses on building premium, socially driven programming with the top 1% of social media stars.
Last year, Astronauts Wanted teamed with Fullscreen and AT&T to produce “SnapperHero,” the first scripted series for Snapchat’s Discover feature. In the coming weeks, it will be landing on another new platform, the subscription service YouTube Red, which will be the exclusive home of “A Trip to Unicorn Island,” a full-length feature documentary it produced that takes an inside look at the life and journey of Lilly Singh as she embarks on a challenging 26-city global tour.
