There aren’t enough destinations for science fiction fans. Or, at least, that’s the stance Gunpowder & Sky is taking with the launch of its newest brand — “DUST”. A new multi-platform streaming destination built around short films, series, and behind-the-scenes programming, both original and syndicated, in the genre, supported by ads and potentially sponsors. Current Chernin Entertainment producer, Steve Tzirlin, is leading the curation efforts for “DUST,” which has over 100 titles available on its channels at launch, including its own original project “Never Happened” and sci-fi thriller “Where the Shadows Fall.”
Gunpowder & Sky also announced “DUST’s” first original production “Product Wars” — a futuristic portrayal of consumerism and the products we use turning against us and taking over the world.
Consistent with G&S’ other verticals and projects — Caviar and WeatherFrom — the slate will include a blend of established filmakers and up-and-comers.
“Sci-fi shorts, as well as the overall sci-fi culture, is reminiscent of the renaissance in music videos at the dawn of MTV in the 80s,” said Van Toffler, CEO, Gunpowder & Sky. “Global sci-fi fans are obsessed with consuming breakthru content, and now with access to cutting edge effects and tech tools, they aren’t only viewing but they are now creating their own compelling narrative and visuals within the genre.
