Facebook Hits a Home Run, Inks a Deal with MLB to Live-Stream Free Game WeeklyFacebook has closed a deal with Major League Baseball to live-stream 20 games for free during the 2017 season. The first of the 20 games will broadcast on the official MLB Facebook page starting this Friday, with the Colorado Rockies at the Cincinnati Reds at 7:10 p.m. ET. Additional games will be announced at a later date
Vevo Relaunches Apple TV App
Vevo, the music video service, will roll out a revamped app for 4th generation Apple TVs this coming Friday. The updated app adds video previews and places a bigger focus on personalization and curation through playlists. The curated playlists take cues from contexts, in other words, music videos suggested on a Tuesday morning may look different from those on a Saturday afternoon.
Google’s DayDream VR Platform Gets a Few Sweet Updates
Google’s Daydream virtual reality headset will soon be able to share the videos and games that are being played on the device with others. With the next version of Android, code-named Android O, Daydream is going to get official support for Google’s Chromecast streaming adapter, making it possible to display everything a Daydream user is seeing on a nearby TV set. The device will also get support for YouTube Watch parties and Chrome Browsers.
Digital Media Company Brit + Co Raise $15M in Investments
Digital media company Brit + Co announced $15 million in new funding led by Verizon Ventures. The the female-focused media company, founded by entrepreneur Brit Morin, has raised its total funding to $45 million. Existing investors include DMGT, Intel Capital, Lerer Hippeau Ventures, Oak Investment Partners, and angel investors such as Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer and Gary Vaynerchuk.
MLB to Launch VR-Enhanced Broadcasts
Debuting June 1st, MLB’s At Bat app will be available in a VR mode. The app will let users access live stats and scores including a 3D strike-zone cube that sits directly in front of the viewer. The At Bat VR mode also will provide a collection of 360-degree on-demand videos to view in the headset. Initially, the new feature will only be available for Google’s Daydream headset and Android smartphones.
